Raudfeldsgja Gorge

Absolutely a must visit. Looks stuning when you look from far away. Also when you get into it you will climb up the river. Wet rocks, wet walls but it’s worth to go as far as you can ! Take good shoes for climbing.

On the way also visit Raudamelsolkelda and Gerduberg cliffs

Finding place – EASY
Distance from Reykjavik – 185 km.
Fees – 1000 ISK (Crossing Hvalfjördur Tunnel)

Hot Spring #1

This hotspring is in a midle of nowhere.. Definately hard to find but it’s worth it. You will have to drive around half an hour through lava fields via bad contition gravel – mud roads. The spring itself is small. I would say 5-6 persons max. If you find it you will have your own private natural hot spring because it is not a touristic place.

Location :

64.86843, -22.28359

Raudamelsolkelda natural mineral spring

Raudamelsölkelda mineral water spring

Raudamelsölkelda is a natural mineral water spring which is coming straight from the depths of earth. The water in Raudamelsölkelda has carbonic acid so you can see bubbles coming up (like boiling water). Water is drinkable and tastes very good (like expensive mineral water from the shop) ! So don’t forget to take some empty bottles to fill up.
To find this spring you will have to turn right from road 54 to GERDUBERG CLIFFS and drive straight around 10 -15 minutes until you will find parking area. Take a walk through lava field towards to waterfall and turn right when path split. It can take some time until you will notice it. We met a lot of tourists who couldn’t find the spring.

Finding place – IT CAN TAKE TIME
Distance from Reykjavik – 120 km.
